Counting Our Blessings
For the November issue of Hilltop Highlights, our monthly newsletter for and about residents and employees, members of our personal care community shared what they are thankful for this year. Here are their responses.
Betty D. (resident): “I’m thankful for all the kind and loving friends and staff at Mt. Assisi Place.”
Cindy McCullough (director of resident care): “I am thankful for my husband and family, the ability to serve others, and the freedoms we currently have in this great land.”
Sister Norberta Kralosky (resident): “I am thankful for my life and the possibility that when I die, I will go to heaven and be with God.”
Sister Francesca Parana (resident): “I am thankful for family and the celebration of Mass at Mt. Assisi Place. I still have my good health. I’m still around at 90.”
Marylou Markovich (volunteer): “I am thankful for being able to spend time with all the wonderful staff and residents at Mt. Assisi Place.”
Sister Roselyn Kuzma (resident): “I am thankful for Sunday Masses, receiving the Eucharist in our chapel, my family, that we are healthy, my community (the School Sisters of St. Francis), new life in my family, that my Sister Teresa’s sufferings are over.”

Carolee Mandernach (housekeeping): “I am thankful for my family and friends staying safe and healthy and to bring a smile to our extended family here.”
Carolyn Klingensmith (resident aide): “I am thankful for my life, my family, my friends, my job and my residents.”
Sister Lois Jean DiFalco (resident): “I am thankful that I have a bed to sleep in, I have food, I have a bathroom, that someone sweeps my room, that I am still alive and healthy enough.”
Rita J. (resident): “I am thankful for our nurses’ aides and nurses.”
Helen M. (resident): “I am thankful for God, peace, family and friends, love and happiness.”
Patrice Mikec (activities): “I am thankful that my family is doing well during this crazy pandemic! I am grateful for my blessings of family, friends, coworkers and good health.”
Dorothy H. (resident): “I am thankful for our lives and the community we have here at Mt. Assisi Place.”
Helen B. (resident): “I am thankful for modern appliances that make our holiday meals easy. I’m also thankful to be able to vote as we please.”
Sister Karen Buco (resident): “I am thankful for the treasured love of my family, community, relatives and friends and all their kindness, generosity and support they give to me. I am thankful for the gift of life within and around me, in the beauty of nature on the land and sea. Also, God’s goodness with many blessings showered from above and so much more given to me with all His love.”
Connie Holko (receptionist): “I am thankful to live in this beautiful country and to be free to worship God any way that I want. I am thankful that God has kept me and my three beautiful children, my two in-laws and my granddaughter safe and healthy this year. Amen!”

Sister Rosalia Giba (resident): “I am thankful for my mother and father because they made the Catholic faith alive in our home. Daily Mass and the Rosary were part of my upbringing. I’m also thankful for God’s beauty in creation – the seasons, mountains, fields of green, bodies of water, animals and beautiful flowers.”

Sister Barbara Ann Webster (resident): “There are too many things to count – the hearing aids that give me the gift of listening; all of my Sisters and friends; never having to worry, as my needs are met; kindess so often received; and the opportunity to give and receive smiles galore.”
